Peers Take Notice of McGlone’s Contributions in the Investment Industry

Heartland Advisors Value Investing CEO and Portfolio Manager Will NasgovitzMilwaukeeOctober 21, 2021—Heartland Advisors Portfolio Manager Troy McGlone, CFA, has been recognized with a “Rising Star” award in the 2021 Mutual Fund Industry Awards sponsored by Fund Intelligence.

Winners were nominated by their peers, mentors and colleagues, and selected by the editorial staff of Fund Intelligence based on criteria including leadership and contributions made to the mutual fund community.

“I can’t count how many times we’ve benefited from Troy bringing something value-added to the table through his unique, in-depth perspective,” said Portfolio Manager and Heartland CEO Will Nasgovitz. “This award highlights how others in the industry are also recognizing the talent he contributes to the investment field.”

McGlone has served as co-portfolio manager of Heartland’s award-winning Mid Cap Value Fund and Heartland’s go anywhere Opportunistic Value separate account strategy.

“Troy’s deep analytical acumen, wide bandwidth, and thirst for constant learning is perfect for the lean generalist model we have. Similar to the way Munger described Buffet, I consider Troy a ‘learning machine.’ His investment decision making has always proven wise beyond his years for reasons beyond quant/analytical ability. He’s better at seeing the forest through the trees than many”, said Director of Research Colin McWey who works with McGlone on the Mid Cap Value Fund and Opportunistic Value Equity Strategy.

The Opportunistic Value Equity Strategy seeks to capture long-term capital appreciation by investing in companies with market capitalizations greater than $500 million. The Strategy’s flexible pursuit of value positions it as a core holding for investors.

In addition to stocks of large companies, the Opportunistic Value Equity Strategy invests in stocks of small- and mid-cap companies that are generally less liquid than large companies. The performance of these holdings generally will increase the volatility of the strategy’s returns.

An investor should consider the Funds’ investment objectives, risks, and charges and expenses carefully before investing or sending money. This and other important information may be found in the Funds' prospectus. To obtain a prospectus, please call 800-432-7856 or visit Please read the prospectus carefully before investing.

The Mid Cap Value Fund invests in a smaller number of stocks (generally 40 to 60) than the average mutual fund. The performance of these holdings generally will increase the volatility of the Fund’s returns. The Fund also invests in mid–sized companies on a value basis. Mid-sized securities generally are more volatile and less liquid than those of larger companies.

There is no assurance that dividend-paying stocks will mitigate volatility.

Value investments are subject to the risk that their intrinsic value may not be recognized by the broad market.
